Can astrology predict marriage? More specifically, can your birth chart reveal how many times you’ll get married, what your future spouse might be like, or whether you’re destined for one lifelong partnership?
Marriage prediction astrology is a fascinating area of natal chart interpretation, especially for anyone curious about their romantic future.
But while most astrologers focus on the 7th house, Venus, and relationship compatibility, a lesser-known technique tries to predict something much more specific: the number of potential marriages in your lifetime.
The technique is discussed by astrologer Carol Rushman in her book: “The Art of Predictive Astrology.”
In my latest YouTube video, I explore Rushman’s marriage-prediction theory and test it using celebrity birth charts, including Cher, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and more.
Can the positions of the planets really reveal how many times someone will walk down the aisle? Let’s explore the theory and what it might tell us about love, marriage, and destiny.
Can Astrology Predict Marriage?
In traditional astrology, marriage and long-term relationships are associated with specific houses, planets, and aspects in the birth chart.
When analyzing marriage in astrology, several placements are particularly important:
- The 7th house: Represents marriage, committed relationships, and long-term partnerships.
- Venus: Symbolizes love, attraction, romance, and the way we express affection.
- The ruler of the 7th house: Provides additional insight into partnership dynamics and the qualities we may seek in a spouse.
- Jupiter: Associated with expansion, opportunity, and growth, including within relationships.
- Saturn: Represents responsibility, maturity, boundaries, and long-term commitment.
- The Sun and Moon: Central to Carol Rushman’s traditional marriage prediction technique.
While these placements are commonly interpreted to understand relationship patterns, predicting the exact number of marriages is much more complicated. That’s where Rushman’s theory becomes particularly interesting.
Carol Rushman’s Marriage Prediction Theory Explained
Carol Rushman is an astrologer and author of The Art of Predictive Astrology: Forecasting Your Life Events.
In her book, Rushman describes a technique she learned from earlier astrologers and developed through her own practice. It uses applying planetary aspects to identify the potential number of marriages indicated in a birth chart.
Her traditional method makes a distinction between men’s and women’s charts.
Marriage Prediction in a Woman’s Birth Chart: The Sun
According to Rushman’s theory, the number of major applying aspects the natal Sun makes before leaving its zodiac sign can indicate the number of potential marriages in a woman’s life.
The Sun is examined in relation to slower-moving planets, including:
- Mars
- Jupiter
- Saturn
- Uranus
- Neptune
- Pluto
Rushman also considers certain Sun-Moon applying aspects relevant to marriage potential.
For example, if a woman’s Sun forms two qualifying applying aspects, the traditional interpretation suggests the potential for two marriages.
However, potential does not mean certainty. The theory does not claim that every indicated marriage must happen.
Marriage Prediction in a Man’s Birth Chart: The Moon
For men, Rushman’s traditional technique focuses on the Moon instead of the Sun. The astrologer examines how many qualifying applying aspects the natal Moon makes before leaving its zodiac sign.
Because the Moon moves faster than the other planets, it can form applying aspects to a wider range of planetary bodies. Each qualifying aspect is interpreted as a possible marriage indicator.
It’s worth emphasizing that this is a historical, gender-based astrological technique. Its original framework doesn’t fully account for same-sex relationships, nonbinary identities, or the many different ways people experience commitment today.
What Are Applying Aspects in Astrology?
To understand this marriage prediction technique, we first need to understand the difference between applying aspects and separating aspects.
An aspect is an angular relationship between two planets in a birth chart.
An applying aspect occurs when the planets are moving toward an exact aspect. A separating aspect occurs when they have already passed the exact alignment.
Rushman’s technique primarily considers five major aspects:
| Aspect | Angle | Traditional interpretation |
| Conjunction | 0° | Union, intensity, emphasis |
| Sextile | 60° | Opportunity, cooperation |
| Square | 90° | Tension, challenges, growth |
| Trine | 120° | Harmony, ease, compatibility |
| Opposition | 180° | Polarity, attraction, balance |
Under this method, the applying aspects of the relevant luminary, the Sun or Moon, are counted before it leaves its current sign.
Rushman also distinguishes between planets. For example, she associates applying Sun-Mercury and Sun-Venus aspects more often with close alliances or opportunities for relationships than with marriages themselves.
The distinction matters because not every aspect in your birth chart should automatically be counted as a marriage.
Celebrity Marriage Predictions: Cher, Beyoncé, and Katy Perry
One of the most exciting ways to explore astrology is by comparing a theory with real-life experiences.
That’s exactly what I did in my YouTube video.
I examined the birth charts of 25 well-known celebrities and explored whether Carol Rushman’s marriage prediction technique corresponds with their romantic histories.
Here are three of the women featured in my analysis.
Cher’s Birth Chart: Can Astrology Indicate Multiple Marriages?

Cher is one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world, known not only for her extraordinary career but also for her fascinating romantic history.
The singer has been married twice: first to Sonny Bono and later to Gregg Allman.
Her experiences make her an interesting case study for examining whether a birth chart can symbolically reflect more than one marriage.
When applying Rushman’s technique to Cher’s natal chart, the central question becomes: Do the Sun’s applying aspects correspond with her two marriages?
And beyond the number of marriages, could the planets involved describe qualities associated with her partners?
In the video, I examine her chart through this technique and explore how the theory compares with her real-life experiences.
Beyoncé’s Birth Chart: Can Astrology Indicate a Lasting Marriage?
Beyoncé offers a different perspective on marriage prediction astrology.
The singer married rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z in 2008, and their relationship has become one of the most widely recognized marriages in the entertainment industry.
Unlike Cher, whose history includes multiple marriages, Beyoncé provides an opportunity to examine a long-term marriage.
Does her natal Sun suggest one marriage, or does it indicate additional possibilities?
Beyoncé’s birth chart raises an important question: If someone has multiple potential marriage indicators, does that necessarily mean they will marry more than once?
According to Rushman’s framework, the answer is no. Astrological potential doesn’t require every possibility to manifest.

Katy Perry’s Birth Chart: Marriage, Divorce, and Significant Relationships

Katy Perry is another fascinating celebrity to examine through the lens of marriage astrology.
The singer married comedian Russell Brand in 2010, and their divorce was finalized in 2012. She later had a long-term relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter. She is currently dating Justin Trudeau.
Her romantic history brings up an interesting distinction in predictive astrology: Can a planetary aspect represent a significant relationship without necessarily resulting in marriage?
Rushman’s theory distinguishes between marriage indicators and other relationship opportunities, but real-life partnerships don’t always fit neatly into astrological categories.
Katy Perry’s birth chart provides an opportunity to explore that complexity and consider how the symbolism might correspond with major romantic experiences.

Now for the fun part: putting the theory to the test!
In my YouTube video, I take a closer look at the natal charts of Cher, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, and other celebrities to investigate whether Carol Rushman’s marriage prediction method holds up.
Rather than simply discussing the theory, I walk through the relevant planetary placements and compare the astrological interpretations with their known relationship histories.

As you watch, consider whether the technique seems to describe the celebrities’ experiences accurately or whether the exceptions are just as revealing as the apparent matches.
Can Your Birth Chart Reveal What Your Future Spouse Will Be Like?
One of the most intriguing parts of Rushman’s technique is that it goes beyond counting potential marriages.
She also proposes that the planets involved in applying aspects may symbolically describe qualities of a future spouse.
For example:
- Mars: An energetic, assertive, passionate, or competitive partner.
- Jupiter: Someone optimistic, adventurous, philosophical, or connected to travel and education.
- Saturn: A mature, disciplined, responsible, or possibly older partner.
- Uranus: An independent, unconventional, or freedom-loving partner.
- Neptune: A romantic, imaginative, spiritual, or artistic partner.
- Pluto: An intense, transformative, magnetic, or deeply private partner.
Rushman also observed possible connections between these planets and a spouse’s rising sign.
For example, Jupiter symbolism might correspond with Sagittarius or Pisces qualities, while Saturn symbolism might suggest Capricorn or Aquarius themes.
These are traditional symbolic associations, not reliable ways of identifying a future spouse’s actual zodiac sign or personality.
Still, they offer another interesting layer to explore when interpreting relationship patterns in a birth chart.
Can Astrology Predict When You’ll Get Married?
Another popular question is whether astrology can predict the timing of marriage. Other branches of predictive astrology examine timing through planetary movements and chart developments.
Astrologers may look at:
- Transits: Current planetary movements that activate natal placements, particularly Venus, the 7th house, or its ruler.
- Secondary progressions: A symbolic timing technique used to interpret internal development and major life chapters.
- Solar returns: Annual charts calculated for the Sun’s return to its natal position, interpreted for themes in the coming year.
- Annual Profections: A traditional predictive astrology technique that activates a different house of the birth chart each year. When the 7th house of marriage and partnerships is activated, relationships, commitment, and marriage may become important themes.
- Planetary cycles: Important cycles involving Jupiter, Saturn, and other planets that may coincide with periods of personal change.
Is Marriage Predestined in Your Birth Chart?
This is perhaps the most important question of all. If your natal chart suggests two or three potential marriages, does that mean you’re destined to experience them?
Not necessarily. Even Rushman’s own discussion of the technique distinguishes between the potential for marriage and the choices people make throughout their lives.
A person may have multiple significant relationships without marrying each partner. Someone else may experience profound personal transformation within one lifelong marriage.
Love and commitment are shaped by many factors, including emotional maturity, compatibility, communication, personal values, circumstances, and free will.
I believe astrology becomes most meaningful when we approach it as a tool for self-discovery rather than a fixed prediction of our future.
Your birth chart can offer a symbolic language for exploring patterns, but it doesn’t take away your ability to make choices or create the life you want.

Frequently Asked Questions About Marriage Prediction Astrology
Carol Rushman’s traditional technique suggests counting qualifying applying aspects from the Sun in a woman’s chart or the Moon in a man’s chart before the relevant luminary leaves its zodiac sign. The result is interpreted as a potential number of marriages, not a guaranteed outcome.
The 7th house is traditionally associated with marriage, committed partnerships, and long-term relationships. Its sign, planetary ruler, and any planets within it are commonly examined in relationship astrology.
The 7th house of marriage and its ruling planet are used to understand the qualities you may attract in a long-term partner.
Carol Rushman’s marriage prediction theory takes this a step further. She suggests that the planet making an applying aspect to the Sun or Moon may describe the energy of a future spouse and potentially indicate their Sun sign or Ascendant (rising sign).
For example, an applying aspect involving Mars could point to a partner with strong Aries or Scorpio energy, while Jupiter might suggest Sagittarius or Pisces placements.
Rushman discussed charts with no qualifying applying aspects, as well as charts with luminaries in the final degrees of a sign, as cases where her marriage-counting technique may be less straightforward. A lack of applying aspects should not be interpreted as proof that someone will never marry.
Some traditional techniques associate certain planetary aspects or house configurations with multiple marriages or relationship changes.
